The project, titled \"Empowering University Youth to Improve Human Rights of Young People from Vulnerable Groups\" with the short name \"Rights Project,\" aims to empower university students in the context of discrimination and human rights within the scope of the European Union\'s European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) program.
Implemented by the Youth Services Center Association (GSM), Mardin Joint Women\'s Cooperation Association (MOKİD), and Uğur Mumcu Investigative Journalism Foundation (um:ag), the project will span 36 months, aiming to establish connections among university students aged 18-25 based on equality and zero discrimination through online and face-to-face activities.
The Council of Europe considers the empowerment of young people in human rights as a measure against the rise of violence, racism, extremism, xenophobia, discrimination, and intolerance. The Rights Project, created within this context, collaborates with young people to develop and promote a culture of human rights in society, creating democratic spaces for them to raise their voices. The project targets two separate groups: civil society organizations working with young people and university students aged 18-25 in Ankara, Diyarbakır, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Mardin, Mersin, and Samsun, where face-to-face activities will take place.
Objectives of the Rights Project:
· Create spaces where young people can experience democracy and participation.
· Emphasize the importance of human dignity.
· Empower young people for the development and widespread acceptance of human rights culture in society.
· Support young people in overcoming biases and stereotypical ideas about others.
· Create environments that foster tendencies and behaviors in young people to respect the rights of others.
· Develop educational programs and practical activities for young people to understand and internalize human rights.
· Encourage young people to be agents of change.
· Strive to make vulnerable groups more visible and increase their participation in social and political realms.
· Aim for a comprehensive approach in young people regarding human rights.
· Identify the current situation of vulnerable groups in terms of human rights and develop policy recommendations accordingly.
The project titled \"Dissemination of Rights-Based Journalism Through Civil Society\" is being implemented by um:ag with the financial support of the European Union.
The general objective of the project is to contribute to the development and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Turkey through the following means:
1. Developing and strengthening rights-based journalism in Turkey
2. Empowering civil society actors and organizations in this context
Within this framework, the specific goals and objectives of the project are as follows:
1. Expanding the expertise of the Uğur Mumcu Investigative Journalism Foundation (um:ag) towards rights-based journalism,
2. Collaborating with major civil society organizations and networks specializing in rights-based journalism in the EU to learn from each other and exchange best practices,
3. Cooperating with academia to develop rights-based journalism in Turkey through the creation of academic publications and an educational module,
4. Promoting rights-based journalism in Turkey by establishing relationships with civil society through educational programs.
The Journalism School
It is an online educational module established in line with the goals and objectives of this project. Within the scope of the project, three Rights-Based Journalism Training for Civil Society Organizations sessions were organized on December 21-22, 2019 (Ankara), February 8-9, 2020 (Istanbul), and May 8-9-10, 2020 (via Zoom) with different participants. The curriculum for Rights-Based Journalism Training for Civil Society Organizations was adapted to the online module following feedback from training participants and expert opinions from the project\'s academic stakeholders. Trainers involved in the project provide lessons in various educational topics within the Journalism School based on their areas of expertise.

The project titled \"Empowering Local Women Journalists: Journalists Online Platform- JOP\" is being carried out with the support of the Swedish Consulate by um:ag.
Within the scope of the project, Online Journalism Training for Local Media Employees was organized on November 21-22, November 28-29, December 19-20, and December 26-27, 2020, with the participation of journalists from different regions. Lessons in the training covered topics such as News Writing Techniques, Journalism Ethics, Gender Sensitivity, Gender-Focused Journalism, Mobile Journalism, Violence, and Media. These lessons were conducted by expert academics and journalists in their respective fields. The main objectives of the project are:
1. To bridge the gap between traditional journalism and data journalism by providing training in mobile journalism, journalism skills, social media literacy, podcast production, etc., for journalists.
2. To prioritize women journalists working in local media and promote a free public debate on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
3. To ensure gender equality and empower women in the media sector by equipping them with necessary skills and qualifications.
The Journalists Platform
It is an online news network established in line with the goals and objectives of this project. The platform aims to disseminate the news of journalists working in local media, encourage collaboration between female and male journalists, thereby contributing to the development of freedom of expression and human rights. Starting with the news of participants in the Online Journalism Training for Local Media Employees, the platform aims to host news from journalists across Turkey in the future.
News sent to the Journalists Platform will, after an editorial process, be published in various categories such as Life, City, Environment, Culture-Arts, Agriculture, Education, Health, among others.
