It has been 19 years since you left us. This year, Güldal, your wife, and your children Özgür and Özge, who established the foundation in your memory, decided to publish the compiled writings from the records.

It became a monumental work. Within it, you find the outcry of a society, addressing you and itself.

There are such heartfelt, dignified, and loving expressions among them that it is not possible to add anything new; at most, I can join them.

As I flipped through the pages, I noticed that some of those who addressed you have also left us over time.

Most of them knew you as Uğur Mumcu, the writer, thinker, patriot, and the Uğur Mumcu associated with the Kuva-i Milliye. 

Undoubtedly, these are significant elements that constitute your personality. But beyond that, there is a "human" aspect that permeates every moment of daily life and is contagious to your friends.

If they had also recognized that side of you, the "person" who always stood by your friends, the oppressed, and those unjustly treated, openly displaying your affectionate attitude...

How much we would have laughed together. After that day, I also laughed without you. But after you, I have never laughed so fully, so sincerely, so profoundly.

After that day, it seemed to me that there was always a sadness, always a deficiency, always a superficiality in my laughter.

After that day, I cried too... But I don't know, was I crying for you, or for society?..."
